Cardiff Half Marathon wins best event

The Cardiff Half Marathon has won Best Event at the 2025 Cardiff Life Awards.

The team who were up against other events in the city including Cardiff Cabaret Club, Christmas at Bute Park, Def Fflur Productions, InfoTeam International, OTID Entertainment (Afrowales) and PowHerful Sisterhood Cardiff, were ecstatic to take home the top prize at the awards ceremony held at Cardiff City Stadium on Thursday (March 6).

The judges said: “The 2024 Cardiff Half Marathon broke records with 29,000 participants and raised £3 million in Wales’ largest multi-charity fundraising event. Top year!”

Rachel Madge, Event Manager at the Cardiff Half, was presented with the award by BBC Radio 6 presenter, Huw Stephens.

She said: “We are so delighted to receive this award. A huge thank you to everyone who contributes to making the Cardiff Half Marathon the success that it is including the staff, stakeholders, partners and charities – and all our wonderful volunteers without whom we wouldn’t be able to put on the event.

“The event was started by Barnardo’s Cymru in 2003 and since then we’ve gone on to hold the World Half Marathon Championships when we invited Sir Mo Farah and it’s now an elite road race which hosts the Welsh Half Marathon Championships each year, as well as a member of the SuperHalfs – a global series of the world’s most prestigious half marathons.

“2024 was our biggest half marathon to date with 29,000 people signed up across the weekend, raising more than £3 million for charity. We were particularly proud of last year’s event. The theme was a Race for Everyone a reflection of Wales today and the diversity of the city.

“Off the back of last year’s race, entries to 2025 sold out in less than 12 hours so we’re looking forward to building on this success and seeing what the future holds for the Cardiff Half Marathon.”

The ceremony marked the tenth anniversary of the Cardiff Life Awards and features the largest number of Cardiff businesses coming together to celebrate making Cardiff a unique and dynamic city.

A huge thank you to the Cardiff Life Awards for this honour and congratulations to everyone who won or was nominated for an award!
